Shopping for kids’ swimwear
Because we don’t tend to shop for swimwear all that often, here are our top tips for picking the right swimwear and avoid
- Stay true to size: it’s second nature to buy kids’ clothing with room to grow but don’t be tempted to do that when buying kids’ swimwear! Wet garments stretch a little when wet and no one wants a baggy bum or annoying slipping straps to interrupt swimming strokes or water play.
- Choose a swimsuit colour wisely: the colour of your child’s swimsuit could save their life, just take a look at this Swimsuit Colour Chart. When it comes to your child’s safety in and around water, bright, neon-coloured bathers and rashies are best when swimming in any body of water.
- Different togs for different activities: if your kids are part of a swimming club or are into performance swimming, just like any other sport, they’re going to need swimwear to suit. Skip the cute ruffles and boardies and go for more streamlined one-pieces, boys’ briefs or training swim trunks to help kids pull themselves through the water easily and work on that PB!
- Look after your swimwear: contrary to popular belief, just because swimwear is in water doesn’t mean that it’s self-cleaning. Follow the care instructions for togs to make them last a lot longer, a gentle wash (even just a quickie in a bucket) can free fabric of suncream, sand, chlorine and remnants of that beach kiosk ice cream.
