Mums’ Back-to-School Photos Show Exactly How They’re Feeling (Pretty Happy Indeed)

Creative mums are sharing their back-to-school photos, which show the raw emotion of kids’ first day back.

In some parts of the world (namely America and the UK), the kids are returning to school after the summer break- and it seems there are lots of mums feeling utter joy at the prospect!

Take Keshia Gardner for example. This American mum has an annual family tradition of orchestrating hilarious back to school photos with her kids. The photos include her kids crying, moaning and groaning, while Keshia jumps for joy.

Keshia takes care of a full household, including her biological, step and foster children. On top of this, the family lives on a farm, where she and her husband tend to their cattle and horses. Keshia definitely has her work cut out and so there’s no doubt she deserves a break from mum duties.

But it seems Keshia is just one of many mums getting in on the funny back-to-school photos trend. Mums around the world are celebrating the return of their 9am-to-3pm freedom. If freedom is the right way to describe it, that is.

Meanwhile this mum and her sister celebrate some quality time to themselves.

We all know that these are the hours that errands, housework and appointments all need to magically fit in before school pick-up.

And between all those errands, sometimes mumma just needs a bit of time to herself.

These back-to-school photos are a refreshing alternative to the mum guilt that many mums face at the prospect of time without the kids.

A group of American mums decided it was time to embrace every mum’s right to some time to catch their breath.

“We wanted to do a different take on the whole ‘I’m sad my kids are going back to school’ vibe,” Robyn Pedretti Kelly, one of the moms from the shoot, told Popsugar.

“We wanted people to know that parents need a break sometimes. Just like when our kids are upset and stressed, we tell them to take a breath. Take a break. We did the same.”

Despite having 18 kids between them and deserving some time to themselves, these four mums have still copped criticism for this comical back-to-school photo shoot.

Not Just Mums

Dads are getting in on the back-to-school photo action too, participating in celebratory snaps. Sending their kids off, dads are posing for cheeky back to school photos, mimosa in hand.

The common denominator across all these hilarious photos though is grumpy kids.

There’s no doubt these parents love their kids, but having them home all day, every day for weeks at a time is nothing short of exhausting.

This back-to-school photo clearly shows that these parents are all just craving a few hours to themselves and exhausted kids at 3:30pm. Not too much to ask, right?

Crafty and Sentimental Mums

However, for those mums that aren’t quite ready to pop the champagne, there are other ways to commemorate the beginning of another school year.

Combining an oversized t-shirt and some paint, this mum is creating the perfect graduation gift for her son, Gus. By the time he’s in year 12, this boy will have a t-shirt with his hand-print over the years. Super cute!

“I wanted something that my son and I could enjoy not just now, but when he becomes an adult. I’m a sucker for keepsakes and sentimental valuables, so I know this would be perfect,” Carina Cansino, Gus’ mum, told Insider.

“I know one day we’ll both look back at all the photos and cherish all the great memories. It’s the best part of being a mom.”
