Mum’s Epic Double Cubby House Hack Includes a Fire Station, Cafe, Even a Jail

It’s an entire street of pretend play fun for Timmy, the luckiest little boy who was gifted this epic double cubby house for his birthday.

His mum, Kymberleigh, shared her amazing DIY efforts through Facebook group, Kmart Hacks & Decor, and we are blown away. This is double cubby house hack goals right here!

$400 and a lot of love

The double cubby house features two of Kmart’s popular $199 cubby houses, placed side by side. Kymberleigh then used bits and pieces of timber found in her shed to fill in the roof gaps.

Like many clever parents, Kymberleigh set to work painting the cubby houses and transforming them into something magical.

Have a look at some of the other clever cubby house hacks we’ve featured in the past, as well as this adorable cubby kennel for two very lucky pups

Kymberleigh didn’t just slap a coat of paint on her cubby houses, though. She went above and beyond, transforming them into three separate buildings with all the bells and whistles.

Fire station

Shopfront #1 on Main Street is the town’s fire station, complete with signage, a fire hose, even a little bell to ring. Kymberleigh explains that used scrap pipes and a plastic bowl to make the fire hydrant.

Kymberligh opted for the brick look with the classic bright red door and matching red curtains too. Amazing, right?!

Cafe

Shopfront #2 is Bambini’s Cafe, dishing up delicious ice creams and burgers all day long. She used the planters from the Kmart Cubby Houses to decorate the front with fake flowers and added a Wooden Coffee Shop, $29 from Kmart to the front window.

Kymberleigh explains that her mum made the impressive signs using a cricut machine. Almost everything else was from Kmart and made with “a lot of love and care”.

Police station and jail

Shopfront #3 is the town’s Police Station. Painted blue with white checkers, it even features a jail with black bars on the windows. Too clever!

We have both firemen and policemen in our little man’s life so it was only fitting to create both in his little town’s Main Street,” Kymberleigh writes on her popular Facebook post, which generated thousands of likes and comments.

“He doesn’t have many toys and loves being outside so thought we would make a special play space for him. Pretty proud of the end product.”

Well, I don’t know about you, but my kids would LOVE to have their own street to play in every day. Well done, Kymberleigh – you’re a town planning queen in our eyes. And we’re sure your son would agree with us!
