Small bodies, big heads, and full of surprises – LOL Surprise Dolls have been a hot toy for years and years now. My daughter loves them and so do countless other girls and boys around the world.
However, one mum has recently lifted the lid on a very unsettling surprise, causing Big W to pull the product from their shelves.
LOL Surprise Dolls video goes viral
Earlier this week Brisbane mum Kate Worsfold shared a Facebook video showcasing what happens when she placed her daughter’s LOL Surprise Dolls in a bucket of icy water.
She discovers that several of the different dolls have hidden features only accessible when placed in icy water. However, these features aren’t exactly kid-friendly.
For example, one of the dolls’ faces turns a dark blue/purple. Another has secret bandage-like underwear with the words “caution” on them and she appears to have black shackles around her wrists.
One of the other dolls displays a strange pattern over the underwear which Kate describes as a “lucifer monster”.

‘I am fuming’
Clearly upset over her discovery, Kate states,
As a mum I am so fuming and f***ing livid right now that my daughter has these toys in our house and I knew nothing about it.
These are toys that are being given to our kids and being sold in Kmart, Target, f**king Big W, kid’s shops and we’re buying them innocently for our kids.”
Big W responds to backlash
Since Kate shared her video, Big W has come forward, issuing a statement and explaining that they will be taking the LOL Surprise #hairvibes Dolls off the shelves.
We have listened to our customers’ concerns and have made the decision to remove the range of LOL Surprise #hairvibes Dolls from our shelves,” a spokeswoman said.
“We continue to work closely with our supplier to ensure that future ranges of LOL Surprise at BIG W are consistent with our customer’s feedback.”
Doll drama overseas too
Kate isn’t the only mum to uncover the LOL Surprise dolls hidden surprises. Another woman in the US also noticed a similar issue and another discovered that the male LOL Surprise Dolls feature a penis and testicles.
However, not all LOL Surprise Dolls comes with these hidden concerns. There are only a few varieties that have the colour changing feature, including the Surprise Confetti Pop Series and the #hairvibes series. My daughter has eight different LOL Surprise Dolls and none of them reveals anything secretive when placed in icy water. No racy lingerie, no hidden message, no private parts.
Dolls’ maker respond
MGA Entertainment, the company that makes LOL Surprise Dolls explains that their “fashion-forward” dolls are designed to be fun and expressive. However, they are also taking these concerns very seriously.
We work very hard to be a brand that listens and adapts to our fans’ requests. We acknowledge the recent feedback received and thank you for bringing it to our attention.” – MGA Entertainment said.
“We have implemented comprehensive corrective measures to our design and approval process while ensuring the essence of the brand is kept intact.”

I’m sorry but my 11 year old daugter is a young teenager it is okay for her since she is older, but a blue purple face is not dirty and none of the things you mentioned were that inaproprate. The caution tape is just classy and not dirty I think you are just overreacting a little too much.
